Morning with Trees

This morning I go out

to speak with the green people.

Good morning, dear trees,

I tell them,

thank you for being here!

And they greet me shyly,

all a-tremble with pleasure,

crowding around me

like cats begging to be petted,

rippling in the light breeze

that combs their hair

with its gentle fingers

making them shiver

with delight.

And I tell the trees

how beautiful they are

how they calm

and comfort me

how much I appreciate

their company,

and they blush

full of the flowering

of their happy being,

and pleased as punch

at being loved.
